Liverpool wants to sign a central midfielder as Emre Can fears grow

Liverpool and Tottenham have reportedly sent out scouts to check on the progress of French midfielder Geoffrey Kondogbia.

The 24-year-old midfielder was believed to be a back-up option for Jurgen Klopp in the summer if they failed to sign Naby Keita. However, the German boss has continued to monitor the Inter Milan man during his loan spell with Valencia, leading to suggestion he is planning a move for the player.

RP Leipzig midfielder Keita has already been signed for £48million and he will arrive the Anfield on July 1 2018, but Klopp is still believed to be looking to strengthen his midfield and Kondogbia has been impressing in La Liga.

The player has made five starts for Valencia, scoring once since his season-long summer loan switch from Inter, with Valencia sitting third behind Barcelona and Sevilla.

The La Liga outfit are understood to have included a £22million option to sign Kondogbia on a permanent deal come the end of the season, so it will not be straightforward if Klopp decides to move for the player.

Valencia though passed up a similar option last year when they refused to pay the £16million to sign Eliaquim Mangala permanently from Manchester City.

Italian publication reports that both Spurs and Reds scouts have been impressed by the form of Kondgogbia, who is aiming to get himself back in the plans of France boss Didier Deschamps.
And with fears over Emre Can’s contract at Anfield, Klopp may well be lining up a replacement.

Germany international Can is refusing to extend his deal, which expires at the end of the season and the situation at Anfield is believed to be at an impasse.

Can, who was approached by Juventus in the summer, wants a release clause written into the deal and Liverpool are not keen.
