Vissel do exceedingly well, like Kipling

To paraphrase poet and (alleged cake-maker!) Rudyard Kipling, Vissel Kobe kept their collective heads while all around were losing points on Saturday and moved two points closer to table-toppers Gamba Osaka.

Popo popped up late to put the icing on Vissel's 2-0 cakewalk over promotion-pushing V-Varen Nagasaki, while Gamba were sprinkling away points at home to mid-table Fagiano Okayama. Playing without Yasuhito Endo, who's still away on international duty in Brazil with Japan's Confederations Cup squad, may have finally caught up with Gamba.

The only winners in J2's top six were JEF United, who won 2-1 away at Tokushima Vortis. Meanwhile, 4th-placed Kyoto Sanga must have felt they'd been kicked right in the Hollyhocks, after a late penalty award cost them a point at home to Mito.

Going back to Kipling's poem to finish, Vissel will using 'heart and nerve and sinew' to make sure they can 'walk with kings' again next season in J1.
