Gamba go top, Vissel slip & 2 Kubos shine

Gamba Osaka have made it to the top of the J2 tree, at long last, thanks to a winning goal from Yasuhito Endo away at Ehime. After falling behind to an early goal from Masaro Kato, Gamba equalised through Yasuyuki Konno. A draw would not have been enough to make Gamba the new league leaders, so Endo's late winner was significant.

Vissel Kobe had slipped up earlier, at home to Gainare Tottori. Yuichi Kubo scored the only and decisive goal.

A higher-profile Kubo, Yuya, scored twice in Kyoto Sanga's away win at Montedio Yamagata. A late double from the 19-year-old must have added a lot more yen to the potential price tag should Kubo move to Europe this summer. Young Boys of Berne still seem to be pole position to land the talented prodigy.
