Long shrugs off Liverpool speculation to focus on Baggies future

Shane Long has dismissed speculation linking him with Liverpool.

It is no secret that Brendan Rodgers needs to bolster his attacking options, having failed to replace Andy Carroll when the England international joined West Ham United on loan in August. Fabio Borini, the former Chelsea youngster, was signed during the summer, but failed to impress before being forced out with a foot injury.

This means Luis Suarez is the only recognised striker in the Anfield ranks, but this situation isn’t expected to last once the transfer window reopens. One name who has been linked with the Reds is Republic of Ireland international Long, but the 25-year-old insists he is focused only on his current club West Bromwich Albion.

"I'm just concentrating on my football, I'm enjoying playing up front, I love my job," said the former Reading hitman, who has scored five goals and assisted four this term. "It's very enjoyable at the moment and I'll let the rumours take care of themselves."

A more likely target for Rodgers is Senegal international Demba Ba. The 27-year-old already has ten Premier League goals to his name this season, and his contract at Newcastle United carries a release clause of a reasonable £7.5million.
