Villas-Boas insists out-of-favour Adebayor not leaving Tottenham Hotspur

Andre Villas-Boas insists Emmanuel Adebayor is staying at Tottenham Hotspur.

The Togo international spent last season on loan at White Hart Lane, and played a key role as Harry Redknapp’s side finished fourth in the Premier League. And during the summer, he made the move to North London permanent, when Spurs paid Manchester City a knockdown £5million for his signature.

However, Adebayor has found life difficult under new coach Villas-Boas, who has yet to select him to start a single game in the league, with all of his five appearances to date coming from the substitute bench. This has naturally sparked speculation that the 28-year-old could be set for a move when the window reopens.

However, the former Arsenal forward is set to start against Maribor in the UEFA Europa League on Thursday night, and his coach expects him to play a big role in the remainder of the campaign in all competitions.

"Certainly there is no interest in selling or loaning Adebayor," said Villas-Boas. "We brought him in this season, unfortunately for him it hasn't been working out in terms of injuries. We have full belief in Adebayor, he is one of the greatest strikers in the world. Sooner or later he is going to be back in the squad."
