Guardiola link doesn’t worry me, insists Manchester City coach

Roberto Mancini has shrugged off speculation linking Pep Guardiola with his job.

As Manchester City look set for another early elimination from the UEFA Champions League, pressure continues to mount on Mancini despite his Premier League success of last season and they fact the Blues remain unbeaten in their quest to defend their title.

With Guardiola currently being out of work having taken a year out after quitting Barcelona, his name is constantly linked with the top jobs in the game regardless of their current availability. And his link with City is obvious due to their financial standing in the game and their desire to win a trophy the Spaniard won in 2009 and again in 2011.

Perhaps just as importantly, the Etihad Stadium club are also recruiting some of Guardiola’s former colleagues, with Ferran Soriano installed as chief executive and Txiki Begiristain recently appointed as director of football; so speculation linking Guardiola with Mancini’s job, more than any other, is perhaps inevitable.

The Italian coach, though, insists he has no concerns about such a link, as he concentrates on helping City take another maximum point haul from their trip to Upton Park to face West Ham United on Saturday evening.

"If people write that Txiki is here and maybe next year Guardiola will arrive or another manager, this is not my problem. I'm here, I want to continue to work well because I think we are ready to improve and build a stronger team,” he said.
