Atletico Madrid president confident that Falcao will stay

Enrique Cerezo is sure Radamel Falcao will stay at Atletico Madrid.

The Colombian international is regarded as one of the hottest players in world football, due to his goalscoring exploits for club and country. Falcao was hugely prolific during his Porto days, hitting 41 goals in 51 league outings before securing a switch to Atletico which was valued in the region of £35million.

Although La Liga is certainly a tougher league that the Portuguese top-flight, this hasn’t stopped the 26-year-old finding the back of the net on a regular basis. He scored 24 times in 34 appearances during his debut campaign, and this term he has 11 in 12 as Diego Simeone’s side chase the league title.

It is little surprise, then, that Falcao has been linked with a transfer ahead of the January window. Chelsea, against whom he scored a hat-trick in the UEFA Super Cup, have been widely credited with an interest, as have mega-rich Manchester City and even Real, who hope to keep him in the Spanish capital.

Falcao remains under contract at the Vicente Calderon until the summer of 2016, and his value is now thought to be in the region of a staggering £45million. And whilst he is keen to test his talents in another league, Atletico president Cerezo believes that the striker is in no rush to leave the club anytime soon.

"He tells me he is very happy here and that he wants to honour his contract but one day, we don't know when, he would like to try out another league," Cerezo told Cuatro. "I know that day will come, but it won't be anytime soon. I can say that he has told me personally that he loves being at this club.”
