Lescott pleased as Manchester City finally record first clean sheet of season

Manchester City kept their first clean sheet of the season on Saturday.

The defending Premier League champions have kept pace with Chelsea at the head of the table this term, without ever really finding their best form. Their usually reliable back four has been something of a concern for coach Roberto Mancini, who has seen his side concede eight goals in six league games, as well as four in two UEFA Champions League outings and a further four against Aston Villa when exiting the Capital One Cup at the first hurdle.

City, though, produced their best performance of the season against Sunderland on Saturday afternoon. Not only did Aleksandar Kolarov, Sergio Aguero and James Milner find a way past Black Cats goalkeeper Simon Mignolet, but Joe Hart kept his first clean sheet of the campaign in a routine 3-0 win at the Etihad Stadium. And this naturally pleased Joleon Lescott, who returned to the line-up after sitting out the 1-1 draw with Borussia Dortmund on Wednesday evening.

"We are disappointed defensively this season but we are happy with the clean sheet," he told Sky Sports. "We are looking strong now and since we have come back off the international break we have been playing well."
