Popov would give up Champions League football for Baggies stay

Goran Popov wants to stay at West Bromwich Albion.

The 27-year-old joined the Baggies last month on a season-long loan deal from Dynamo Kiev, and is set to battle Liam Ridgewell for a place in Steve Clarke’s starting eleven. Albion have made an impressive start to the Premier League season, having collecting seven points from three games to stand in third position as we enter the first international break.

Popov has yet to make his bow for the Hawthorns side yet as he settles into life in England and builds up his fitness. But the defender, who has won 41 international caps for Macedonia, has already decided he wants to make his move permanent, even though this would mean him giving up UEFA Champions League football with his parent club.

"I hope after this one year I will sign for two or three more," he told the Birmingham Post. "Dynamo usually finishes first or second in Ukraine and as I have a three-year contract there I know - if I go back - I'll be able to play Champions League football. But I will only have one chance to come to England and I want to use it because I always dreamed of it."
