Wigan swoop for Ivory Coast international

Wigan Athletic had added Arouna Kone to their squad.

The Ivory Coast international initially burst onto the scene in Europe during a spell in Holland, where he first impressed for Roda JC before moving onto PSV Eindhoven. Kone then moved to Spain with Sevilla in 2007, but he failed to find his best form for Los Rojiblancos.

However, loan spells at Hannover and, last season, Levante has helped the 28-year-old get back to his usual self, with 15 goals in 34 appearances catching the eye of Roberto Martinez (pictured) last term. The Latics manager has now completed a £2.7million deal for the striker, who has agreed a three-year contract at the DW Stadium.

It has been a successful week for Wigan in the market, having secured the capture of Arsenal midfielder Ryo Miyaichi on loan for the coming season. Martinez had earlier this summer landed defender Ivan Ramis from Real Mallorca, and midfielder Fraser Fyvie from Aberdeen.
