West Ham United to smash transfer record to land £10.75million winger

West Ham United will smash their transfer record to sign Matt Jarvis.

Sam Allardyce has been chasing the 26-year-old winger for much of the summer, but was finding it difficult to reach an agreement with Wolverhampton Wanderers for his signature. It is thought the Hammers had failed with two previous bids, but on Thursday afternoon, it appears as though the deadlock has finally been broken.

It is believed United will pay a fee which could reach as much as £10.75million for Jarvis, which beats their previous record of £9million they paid for Savio Nsereko in January 2009. Naturally, Allardyce is delighted to be closing on the England international cap.

“From my point of view it is a big piece of business,” he said. “I think he is a quality young man who has got a lot of qualities that will add to the team we have already got. He can certainly give defences a really hard time that that is what we are hoping he can do for us.”

Jarvis, if he signs in time, is in line to make his debut at the Liberty Stadium when United travel to Swansea City on Saturday. Both teams have started the season in fine fashion; the Londoners beat Aston Villa 1-0 at home, whilst Michael Laudrup’s side stunned Queens Park Rangers 5-0 at Loftus Road.
