Roberto Martinez still hopes to add to his Wigan Athletic options

Roberto Martinez still hopes to add to his Wigan Athletic squad before 31 August.

Having escaped relegation by embarking on an incredible run towards the end of last season, the Latics are hoping for a more comfortable campaign this time round. And although they lost their opening game 2-0 at home to Chelsea, their second half performance against a title favourite at least offered some optimism.

Martinez has signed Arouna Kone, Ryo Miyaichi (loan), Ivan Ramis and Fraser Fyvie during the summer, but has lost experience in the likes of Mohamed Diame, Hugo Rodallega and Hendry Thomas. With the transfer window set to shut in a little over one weeks’ time, the Spaniard has revealed he still hopes to bring in at least one more player.

"At the moment, we are still looking at if we can bring in maybe another player but it has to be the right one and he has to be the right character to fit in," said Martinez. "But I'm not too concerned by the rest of the window. I'm very pleased with the signings we have made and with the players we have kept in the squad."
