Kaboul relishing AVB reign at Spurs

Younes Kaboul has been encouraged by Andre Villas-Boas’ start at Tottenham Hotspur.

The Portuguese was rated as one of the brightest young coaches in Europe when he swept all before him at Porto, but things turned a little sour last season when he was sacked by Chelsea in mid-season. Villas-Boas has made a swift return to the Premier League, though, after being installed as Harry Redknapp’s successor at White Hart Lane.

Still only 34, he insists he has learned from his spell at Stamford Bridge, and is determined to prove his doubters wrong during the new campaign. And France international defender Kaboul has certainly been encouraged with what he has seen so far.

"There is a new challenge here and a new coach who has been working very well. He has his views on how he wants us to play and considering the players we have here, I am sure it will work,” the 25-year-old former Auxerre and Portsmouth ace told L’Equipe.

Spurs begin their season with a trip to Newcastle United in ten days’ time, in what is probably the most attractive fixture of the opening weekend. St James’ Park is a ground Villas-Boas has happy memories of, having led his Chelsea side to a 3-0 win there last December.
